A simple Character (College Work)

Even though I had done something completely different for my final product, I still wanted to do a simple figure of a character. So I shall start off with a sphere and change its segments into 8.

I select the bottom segments with the select tool (After changing the sphere into an editable object) and then extrude the shapes outwards three times to create the neck, the body, and the legs.
This is the basics of a characters body.

Now that there's three segment sections to choose from, I select the one around the neck area and thin it down, and I do the same for the bottom to make a body. Then I select two sides of the body and extrude them outwards to create arms, and do the same for the bottom for legs. Then I add feet to the end.

I decided to add ears to the top of the character, to make it look like a bunny character and then placed a Hyper NURB onto the character to make it smooth.

Doesn't a bunny deserve eyes and a nose?

Dice! (College Work)

I have always wanted to make Dice in 3D, so it was a real honour to try something new with the tools and equipment available. I have always been interested in dice and the ways they work, ever since I was a kid. I would love to animate and create dice of all sizes, types and colours in 3D, but I shall start with a simple, normal dice.

I shall start with a cube selected from the shape tool. From here I will place a Hyper NURB into the object (Cube) itself and make the segments on each side of the cube to 10. This rounds off the edges of the cube to create a dice shape.

Now I add Spheres, also selected from the object's tab, and place them half way into the sides I need the holes to be for the numbers of the Dice. I used a dice side diagram to get the correct numbers on the correct sides.

Grouping each sphere I have used together, I can now place what is called an Boole NURB onto the spheres, which will make the sphere's disappear, but there will be indents of where the spheres once were, making the perfect number indents for a dice. Things do not work just yet as you have to place the cube inside the Boole as well, so the Boole knows where to work.

Now, lets colour in the spheres into a black and the die into a dark cream colour with a slight texture (To create the illusion of a overused dice). I want this effect because my dice which I use for board games, etc. are all wrecked.

Making a Fantasy Bed (College Work)

After learning various ways of 3D modelling, I wanted to work on my final project. Interior design is quite complicated, but when it comes to Fairy Tale areas, it's simplistic and an easier way to approach 3D design in Interior if you ever want to do something like that.

So I decided to do the Princess and the Pea approach. I quickly sketched out how I wanted my model to look like, and continued to model the structure and contents from there taking inspiration from the image beside this text.
The reason I wanted to do this is because it was a colourful and cute idea, which is what I really wanted to do for my final piece. I will attempt to re-create the room which the Princess stays in, and relaxes.

First, I started with a simple cube. Now, without editing it, I used the smaller selection cubes to extend the length of the cube into the shape of a cuboid mattress.

Now that you have the shape, it is time to make the segments on the Mattress to 5 on each surface. This is so when I place the Hyper Nurb on the object its self, it doesn't round off the object completely, but only the edges and corners.

Now that I have done that, I added a Hyper Nurb to the object to smooth it off, and make it look more like a mattress.

What I explained before is that we couldn't make this shape an editable object because we needed to make segments on the shape. Now that we have the shape sorted, we can now make it an editable object and edit it with the Magnet Tool. ()

It now looks squished and a little realistic, I decided to add a texture on top to make it look more like a mattress and less like a shape on a 3D canvas. I did this by picking and placing the texture on top of the item.

From there, I made multiple of these mattresses, one on top of another, creating a stack, just like in the fairy tale. I made sure that most of the mattresses are squished, deformed, and is if they have been used.  Now it was time to add a frame around the bed to compliment the stack its self.

Four beams around each corner of the bed, but tall and structured like old poster beds. To texture the poles, I used a crumpled paper texture instead of the normal wooden feeling, to keep the old, cracked, and wooden looking.

Time to create the room. Now, I want the wooden beams of the room its self to be on the celling to make the place seem old and warn. After I have done this, I will consider a old, wooden chandelier which will be the lighting point of the room.

Now I am done with the whole room, adding drapes, bed covers, bed curtains and a wooden chandelier. I think it makes the room seem more medieval and old, I like the feeling of the room. I created the curtains by doing my own freehand splines, and placing and Extrude NURB into the spline to make it stretch into a waved shape. As for the covers, I made that by placing a cube into a Clothide Tag, making the creases and shapes of what a cover would do.

Inspirational 3D Models (College Work)

There are many 3D models which inspire me, but most of them in particular are game models and persona models (Character Models) because of the amazing detail and anatomy which goes in them, it's amazing to see how modellers progress and create such awe striking creations.

Okami
Okami is based on old Japanese legends but modelled and drawn in a Chinese styled atmosphere. What I find fascinating about Okami's game play and 3D models is that they're made like they have been drawn and then animated onto the game its self by brushes used on traditional Chinese scrolls and paper. The shading, however, is cell shaded instead of smooth, which also leans the style into a more drawn not modelled style.
I would like to know how this style was created, as it is very unique and effective in both Game Play and just as a 3D model together.

Miku Miku Dance (MMD)
Vocaloid² models are quite the same as Okami, although they aren't for a game, they're just persona's for auto tuned "robotic" voices. Vocaloid² is a vocal program which has different pitches and styles of vocals to choose from, add ons and such. But as the popularity grew, artists decided to create persona's for the voices, their own personal vocalist, which gave birth to what's called MMD (Miku Miku Dance).
Like Okami, MMD models also have the same effect on them, lined sides with cell shading, although on some models that doesn't seem to be the case at all, as they're pure 3D shapes with soft shading around the areas needed.

Joe Yan
A very talented CG artist, Joe Yan has a wide range of works which are dedicated to concepts and atmosphere, having a huge portfolio of work. Joe uses Cinema 4D for his work and has a lot of plug in's and textures; his work is pure 3D, with gorgeous effects and graphics added on to complete his pieces which take just under a week to complete.
What I like about Joe Yan's work is that it's quite unique and very strong, bubbly too. I love the detail and how much effort is put into his own work to complete it, it really shows.

3D Modeling Ships (College Work)

I found this one of the most easiest things to model in Cinema 4D. Ships and planes are fun, and can be easily made by a single Cube. As soon as you make that cube editable by pressing the Edit Shape button () you can mould and stretch the shape by selecting different tools to do so and then place a Hyper NURB onto it to finish it.

The first time took a while to do, but when it was successful, it was nice to see what the Hyper NURB could do. Starting with a simple cube, I made it editable and stretched it out to make the basic body.

After stretching the object and making a perfect body to modify, I select the two longest sides and Extrude Inner, shrinking the inner side for a smaller selection.

After doing that, I decided to Extrude the shape selected to make wings, and continued to do so until I made an odd shape, then added colour onto the shape to see it perfectly.

Finally finished with the object its self, it was time to add the Hyper NURB onto the shape its self. The final thing looks much more better then a blocky object.

Playing Around With Text (College Work)

Text is quite important when it comes to advertising and appealing to other to get a point across, 3D text does make quite an impact. Eye catching lighting and colours makes things more visable to the audience.

I started off with a Text Spline which is in the Spline Selection Tool window;

Click and hold, select the Text Spline and then you can add your own words to make the spline;

As soon as it updates the spline with the words you want, you have to select the Extrude NURBS which you can get from the NURBS selection tool. From there you have to put the Text layer into the NURB layer, making this object full;

When you have done that, you could then fill the objects in with colours to make it match the scene and object around it. Another thing I used the Extude Nurbs on was a shape of a cloud I created with the Freehand Tool in the splines section.

Using information I had doing the shape play around, I made a bed out of cubes and spheres, changing their shapes and understanding how I could make them into a bed. Added Light to make the text and items show their true form as I render it completely.

Just Starting 3D Modeling (College Work)

First time I used Cinema 4D I was completely scared, all the tools and things you can do, it's very daunting the first time I used it. To make these simple objects I pressed the Object button;

If you click and hold, you can get a verity of choices, but I chose a Cube first, a simple shape. From here, you can select Window and then Materials to be able to make a colour, click and drag into place on the object its self. Also, there are other options you can place on the shape, such as a reflection, making the object seem like it's in a realistic enviroment. Because I knew how to do this I decided to have a go at modifying different shapes, which is the Sphere and the Cone objects you see on the side. Yet, I just changed the colour of the Cone to yellow, putting a small reflection on it, the Sphere I decided to put texture onto. A marble effect, making the sphere look like a Marble.

At the end, clicking the Render button;

Which shows all the changes you have done to your shapes and the enviroment.
